Mariah Carey refuses to drink champagne because it was fattening

The 38-year-old singer who married Nick Cannon in a secret ceremony in April was offered a glass of the sparkling alcoholic beverage as she appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ US TV talk show, but refused the drink because of its calorie content.

When Ellen, who was attempting to prove Mariah is expecting her first child, said: “Let's just toast with Champagne”, Mariah replied: “It's just fattening. This is peer pressure!"

After clinking glasses with Ellen, Mariah pretended to sip the champagne without letting any of it pass her lips, causing Ellen to exclaim: “You’re not drinking - you're pregnant!”

But Mariah laughed: “No, no, no. We will let you know when we're going to have a family. It's just too early for me. I only drink after 3pm.”
