The year was 1977. The date was february 2. Nidia Torrado Ripoll was having a baby, and William Mebarak was standing by her side. Suddenly the baby was out and everybody was so happy. The baby was the most beautiful baby they're ever seen. They named her: Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. They all new that, that baby was special. When she was 1,5 year she already knew the ABC. When she was 3 years old she could read and write with a little help. In school, the kids maked fun of her, because she was very short.

When she was 8 years old, she wrote her first song. When she got older, she started to do bellydancing every friday for the whole school. People enjoyed It very much. She got her first record contract when she was 13. But her debut album "Magia", wasn't so successful. So She wanted to be an actress instead. So when she was 17, she moved to Bogóta, Colombia. She took a role in the Colombian soap-opera "El Oasis". But returned to the music the following year.
